Out of the mouths of babes....

Ok...so my parents divorced when I was 18. Don't be sorry it was meant to be...they were suppose to get married, have three beautiful girls, then get divorced once I graduated high school. It worked out perfectly. My parents don't hate each other and of course, during the occasional wedding or funeral, they've had to see each other. They just weren't meant to be together forever ok? Ok.

So to a 6 year old the world (marriage especially) looks completely different than to an adult obviously. Owen has grandparents like most 6 year olds do...Ben's Mom lives in South Georgia but Ben's dad died before Owen was born. He knows who he was though. He calls Bens parents Lola and Lolo because in Tagalog (that's a Filippino language) that's how you say grandmother and grandfather. MY parents are Nana (or Nannie) and Wayne and Papaw. Wayne is Moms husband and Mom and Wayne have been married since waaay before Owen was born so he's never known any difference as far as the whole subject of his 'grandparents' go.

My dad has been visiting for a few days and last night on the way home from dinner Owen spoke up after a brief silence. This was our short conversation....

Owen:
Papaw what happened to your wife?

My Dad giggled.

Me: Honey Papaw and Nana were married a long time ago.

Owen: Yeah but what happened to Papaw's wife?

You've gotta call em like you see em right?

He starts these conversations these days that make you wonder just how long he's been thinking about stuff. He had a conversation with Mom/Nana the other day that went something like this...
Owen: I don't like policemen because they're bad.
Mom: No Owen. They are VERY good. They protect you and keep us safe.
Owen: No they arrest you! They are bad because they arrest you.
Mom(bless her heart): Honey policemen are very good. They only arrest the BAD people. Jim Roy (my dad...for some reason she calls him Jim Roy to a 6 year old) was a policeman. You're Papaw...he was a policeman.
Owen: I don't know anybody named Jim Roy.

The subject was evidently dropped.

I guess I've got a lot of explaining to do about life huh?
